Method
Cook the Pasta:
- Boil the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Prepare the Meat:
- Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and garlic, sauté for 2 minutes.
- Add ground beef and Italian sausage, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Assemble the Casserole:
- Preheat oven to 180°C.
- In a baking dish, layer half of the cooked pasta, followed by half of the meat sauce, half of the mozzarella cheese, and half of the pepperoni and bacon.
- Repeat the layers, finishing with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
Bake:
- Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake uncovered for another 10 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Rest & Serve:
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and enjoy!
Notes
- You can swap penne for any short pasta like rigatoni or rotini.
- Adjust the spice level by adding red pepper flakes.
- Make it ahead and freeze for up to 3 months.
