Ingredients

  • 500 g beef sirloin thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper sliced
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger minced
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 120 ml beef broth
  • Cooked rice for serving

Method

Marinate the Beef:
  1. In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon soy sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Mix well and let sit for 10 minutes.
Make the Sauce:
  1. In a small bowl, mix remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, and beef broth. Set aside.
Stir-Fry Beef:
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef in batches and sear for 1–2 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
Cook Vegetables:
  1. In the same pan, add remaining oil. Sauté onion, garlic, and ginger for 1 minute. Add bell peppers and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until slightly tender.
Combine & Simmer:
  1. Return beef to the pan. Pour in the sauce and toss everything together. Cook for another 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
Rest & Serve:
  1. Let it rest for 5 minutes off heat. Serve hot with steamed rice.

Notes

  • You can substitute sirloin with flank steak or ribeye for a richer flavor.
  • For a spicier kick, add crushed red pepper or sliced chilies.
  • Gluten-free soy sauce or tamari can be used for gluten sensitivity.
