Ingredients

  • 4 fillets cod boneless and skinless, about 6 oz each
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for dredging
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs preferably panko for extra crunch
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
  • ½ tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 tsp paprika optional for flavor
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 lemon cut into wedges, for serving

Equipment

  • 1 Frying pan Heavy-bottomed for even heat distribution
  • 1 Tongs For flipping the fish
  • 1 Paper towels For draining excess oil
  • 1 Mixing bowls For batter and dredging

Method

  1. Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  2. Set up a dredging station with three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
  3. Dredge each cod fillet in flour, dip into the eggs, then coat with breadcrumbs. Press gently to adhere.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  5. Add the cod fillets to the pan (don’t overcrowd) and fry for about 3–4 minutes per side or until golden and cooked through.
  6. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve hot with lemon wedges and your favorite sides.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs. You can also use an air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes for a healthier option.
