Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup hot water

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 6-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the sugars, buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing gently.
  5. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
  8. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting and decorate as desired.

Notes

You can substitute buttermilk with milk and a teaspoon of vinegar.
Add sprinkles or edible flowers for decoration.
